Microsoft tests tablet-optimized taskbar in test version Windows 11
Microsoft has introduced a modified taskbar in a test version of Windows 11 that should be more user-friendly for touchscreen use. Build 22563 includes two modes of the taskbar, as well as a new notification option for system administrators in organizations.
The taskbar adapted for touchscreen use in build 22563 of the Dev Channel has two modes: collapsed or unfolded. In the first mode, the taskbar is made as narrow as possible and, according to Microsoft, only the most important status symbols are visible. In the unfolded mode, the icons on the taskbar are made many times larger, so that they are easier to touch with a finger.
The taskbar will automatically switch to the new design when a touchscreen is disconnected from a keyboard or when a 2-in-1 Windows 11 device is used as a tablet. According to Microsoft, the modified taskbar modes cannot be used on laptops and desktops.
Microsoft is also adding a new notification option in Windows 11 that is aimed at system administrators in companies or organizations that need to maintain multiple Windows 11 devices. With the new notification option, administrators can choose not to show users in their organization Windows Update notifications during active business hours.
