Microsoft temporarily doubles free OneDrive storage to 30GB

Microsoft is temporarily making it possible to get 30GB of free storage with its cloud storage service OneDrive. To do this, users must turn on automatic upload of photos to OneDrive on their smartphone.

According to Microsoft, users who want to double their storage capacity should turn on the automatic upload of photos taken with the smartphone camera before the end of the month. Then the storage capacity is set to 30GB for free. This also applies to existing OneDrive users and users who already have the automatic upload turned on.

Users who have a mobile device with Windows, Windows Phone, Android or iOS can claim the free storage capacity. Microsoft makes no mention of BlackBerry, but it turns out that these users can also claim the free extra storage.

OneDrive isn’t the only service that offers extra storage capacity in exchange for automatic photo uploading. Dropbox, among others, offers extra storage capacity in this way. Cloud storage services hope that more use will be made of the storage capacity.
