From July, Microsoft will implement end-to-end encryption for one-on-one conversations between Teams users. Teams administrators will have the ability to control who can use the privacy functionality.

Microsoft is expected to start making end-to-end encryption available in early July and to be ready by mid-July. This is reported by MSPoweruser and July is now also mentioned on the Microsoft 365 roadmap as the month of general availability. From then on, administrators can choose to make the functionality available to specific users within organizations. By default, encryption is disabled.

Once enabled, users will see the option for the feature in their privacy settings. Again, this is disabled by default, but the user can activate it. It only involves end-to-end encryption for one-to-one conversations over VoIP, which encrypts audio and video, in addition to chats and screen sharing.

Certain features are not possible when security is enabled, such as recordings and transcriptions by Microsoft. The update is coming to the desktop clients and iOS and Android apps worldwide, but not to the web version of Teams.
