Microsoft has started the name change of the Nokia brand. Nokia’s French branch is the first to officially announce its name change to Microsoft Lumia, with other countries to follow in the coming weeks.

Nokia France is the first division of Microsoft to officially confirm via Facebook that its name will be changed to Microsoft Lumia. A further statement about the name change will follow in the coming days, Nokia promises France. Other countries will follow soon, Microsoft has confirmed to The Verge. For the time being, it concerns the names of Facebook, Twitter and other accounts with which the company is active online, later the telephones may follow.

The name change comes as no surprise. Earlier it was rumored that a transition was imminent. Internal documents at the time revealed that Microsoft was planning to no longer use the Nokia brand name. However, the brand name will not disappear completely. The Finnish manufacturer, for example, still produces navigation services and network equipment under that name. For example, the Android application of the map service Here Maps was recently released, with which Nokia offers, among other things, navigation for offline use.
