Microsoft starts notifications in Windows 7 about end of support
Microsoft has started sending out notifications to Windows 7 users to warn them that support for this operating system will end on January 14, 2020. Those who still work with the old version are advised to upgrade to Windows 10 before this date.
Some Reddit users have reported receiving the notification in recent days. “After 10 years, support for Windows 7 is coming to an end,” reads the message’s title. In the text below, Microsoft understands that “change can be difficult”: “That’s why we want to help you back up your files well in advance and prepare for what the future holds”.
According to Windows Latest, users can simply click away the notification, and never be reminded by ticking it again, or click through to a Microsoft website with more information about the deadline and next options. Windows 7 will continue to work as usual after January 14, 2020, but will no longer receive updates, with all the associated security risks. An exception is made for companies: they can continue to receive Windows 7 updates for a fee until 2023.
