Microsoft shows Windows 10 start menu with ‘less present Live Tiles’

Microsoft has shown a draft version of a Windows 10 start menu with static icons of programs and without the background colors of the usual Live Tiles. Users could continue to use the Live Tiles and Microsoft would not remove them.

The screenshots Microsoft showed do not show dynamic Live Tiles, only static views. The different colors of the tiles of the start menu are also absent. Instead, the Live Tiles have a transparent background, light in normal view and dark in Windows 10 dark mode.

With the concept, Microsoft wants to make the start menu less chaotic and more uniform, so that the user can scan for apps more easily. That writes The Verge, which is based on a Windows Insider podcast, although it is not clear which one because the concept does not seem to be discussed in the most recent podcast.

Anyway, Brandon LeBlanc, senior program manager for the Windows Insider team, is said to have said that Windows users who appreciate the Live Tiles can continue to use them. Sources from The Verge also report that no decision has yet been made to remove the Live Tiles. Rumors about this have recently appeared. Among other things, Microsoft would like to wait for feedback on the launcher in Windows 10X. There are no Live Tiles in that menu. It seems that the presence of the tiles is under discussion within the Windows team.
