Microsoft shows first trailer Gears of War: E-Day, release date not yet known

Microsoft has announced Gears of War: E-Day. This is a new game from the Gears of War franchise that is being developed by developer The Coalition in Unreal Engine 5. The sci-fi shooter has not yet been given a release date.

Developer The Coalition says in an interview with Microsoft that the story of the new game takes place fourteen years before the events of the first Gears of War game. For example, players will see the first Locust appear on the planet Sera and will also be reintroduced to Marcus Fenix, the protagonist from the first game.

In the trailer for Gears of War: E-Day the music track 'Mad World' by Tears For Fears can be heard. That song was also used during the advertising campaign for the first Gears of War games. Gears of War is a sci-fi shooter from 2006 that grew into a successful Xbox game franchise. Gears of War 2 was released in 2008, followed by 2011's Gears of War 3, 2016's Gears of War 4 and 2019's Gears 5. In 2020, Xbox Game Studios released the spin-off Gears Tactics.
