Microsoft rolls out paid features to free OneNote variant

Microsoft has rolled out OneNote features that were previously only for paid customers to the free variant of the note-taking service. This includes protecting sensitive information with a password.

Microsoft made OneNote 2013 free for personal use last year. That version did not have all the functionality that was in the fuller version, which can be purchased as part of the Office suite. The software giant claims that the reactions were so positive that it has now also decided to roll out features of previously paid variants to the version for personal use.

One of the features is protecting sensitive information with a password. In addition, previous versions of a note can now be viewed, video and audio recordings can be searched and Office documents and other files can be directly imported. Finally, users can take notes while recording something with the program.

OneNote 2013 runs on Windows 7 and Windows 8 and can be downloaded for free from Microsoft’s site. The service can be linked to storage service OneDrive, where 15GB is available for free, according to Microsoft.
