Microsoft revamps Snipping Tool in Windows 11 with Snip & Sketch merge
Microsoft is working on a new version of the Snipping Tool. “Snipping Tool” will not be removed as the company previously planned, but will be merged with Snipping & Annotation from which many functions will be carried over.
The new program will be called Snipping Tool again, confirms Microsoft product officer Panos Panay on Twitter. There he shares a short video of what the Snipping Tool will look like. It seems that it mainly takes over functions of Cut & Annotate. This allows users to cut a piece out of the image in both a rectangle and freeform. Those controls will now be at the top of the screen instead of as a separate application, just like with Cut & Draw. It will also be possible to draw on snips, although Panay’s video does not yet show many other functions in the tool.
The tool will be included in Windows 11. As a result, Windows Insiders will soon be able to try the tool, although it is not known exactly in which Insider preview this is possible. Panay says nothing about a makeover for the Windows 10 version of the software.
