Microsoft resumes release of optional non-security updates for Windows 10
Microsoft resumes the release of non-security updates for Windows 10 to businesses. The company had temporarily stopped releasing those updates due to the corona pandemic, but system administrators are now getting C and D releases again.
Windows 10 and Windows Server versions 1809 and above will soon get the so-called C and D releases again. These are updates with bug fixes and improvements that are not related to security. The OS C and D updates are optional and are not installed automatically.
Microsoft temporarily halted the release of those updates in March. The company did that because of the corona virus. Many companies had to make the switch to work from home, and Microsoft wanted to spare those companies by not giving them too many optional updates.
“Given the feedback we have received and the stabilization of business continuity, we are resuming the optional releases,” Microsoft wrote. From now on, Microsoft will also give the releases a new name. The company now calls the updates ‘Preview’.
The new releases will be released for Windows 10 and Windows Server for the first time in July 2020. C and D releases are normally released in the third and fourth week of the month respectively. That now only happens in the third week.
