Microsoft reports arrival of two laptops with ARM-socs and 4g for schools

Microsoft has announced two new so-called Connected PCs. The laptops with Qualcomm processors are for the educational market, will appear in the summer and would become the cheapest Connected PCs to date.

The models are the JP.IK Turn T101 priced at $299 and the Positivo Wise N1212S at $575. The laptops are mainly aimed at schools in rural areas and emerging markets, according to Microsoft. Microsoft is not disclosing more details. The company does make a comparison with ‘other Windows PCs with the latest Qualcomm chipset’. There’s a good chance they’ll include a Qualcomm Snapdragon 7c or 8c when they release in the summer. Qualcomm introduced these socs for laptops late last year. They are intended for mainstream laptops, where the previously announced 8cx is mainly for the high-end market.

Microsoft further announced that the education-focused Acer TravelMate Spin B3 and Lenovo 300e have a pen holder that schools would request. In addition, Microsoft is announcing that five new Windows laptops for schools will have indicator LEDs that show whether a device is charged and connected to the Internet. There would also be a need for this. Microsoft is making the announcements during the BETT tech and education conference. The group has to contend with fierce competition from Google’s Chromebooks in the educational market.
