Microsoft reports 12 million downloads of Office for iPad apps
Microsoft has announced that there have been 12 million downloads for Word, Excel, Powerpoint and OneNote for the iPad. The software developer unveiled the Office for iPad suite, which is free to download, last week.
Microsoft made the 12 million downloads known via Twitter. Right after the release, the apps topped the top list of most downloaded free apps. It is not known how many new subscriptions to its Office 365 service the developer has received through the downloads. The apps are free and offer the possibility to read Office files, but those who want all functionality and want to be able to create or edit files, for example, must subscribe to Office 365 for 10 euros per month.
Microsoft’s new CEO, Satya Nadella, presented Office for iPad during his first product presentation for Microsoft last week. The apps are similar in functionality to the desktop programs. The iPad versions do have a custom interface that is optimized for tablets. At Microsoft’s Build 2014 conference, the company also showcased touch-optimized versions of Office for Windows, NeoWin wrote.
