Microsoft has renamed its desktop computer SUR40 to PixelSense. The table computer was first called Surface, but now Microsoft is going to sell tablets under that name, so the Samsung table computer had to be given a different name.

The Samsung-made tabletop computer was unveiled in January 2011 as Surface SUR40, the successor to the first Surface desktop computer from 2007. The Surface uses a technology called PixelSense, where each pixel also has an infrared camera on board to see if there is a object or hand is on the pixel. The table computer has now been renamed after that technology.

The name Surface is now reserved for Microsoft’s own tablets, which were announced Tuesday night. The tablets have a 10.6-inch screen and will be released this fall at the earliest; the Ivy Bridge version could even hit the market a few months later. Both run Windows 8. The Surface SUR40 desktop computer has been around since November last year. available.
