Microsoft is removing the previously announced Sets feature from future versions of Windows 10, sources report to ZDnet. Testers would not understand the function well and Microsoft wants to pay more attention to Edge.

Sets was an experimental feature that allowed users to group different programs, websites, and other applications using tabs in a single window. Sets was already announced in 2017, but in the end never finally appeared in Windows 10. Sets was, however, in some Insider versions of Windows where beta testers could get started. However, many testers did not understand how the function worked.

Microsoft would now have completely put the plan on hold, sources within the company told ZDnet. Sets will not appear in the upcoming May update of the operating system, nor in future versions. Initially, Sets would only work with the Universal Windows Platform, but later Win32 programs were added.

According to ZDnet’s sources, Microsoft is giving up the feature because of Microsoft Edge. Earlier this year, Microsoft converted the Edge browser to the Chromium engine. With this, the company hopes to attract more users to the browser. However, that project would be much delayed if Sets had to be integrated. It was then decided to delete Sets altogether.

Update, 14.40: Microsoft said in a statement to Windows Central that Sets is still under consideration but is subject to a long-term review while other work on Microsoft Edge should be prioritized.
