Microsoft removes recently added Chrome installer from its own app store

Shortly after Google put a Chrome installer in the Microsoft Store, Microsoft removed it again. According to Microsoft, the installer goes against the rules of the app store. The Chrome installer only provided users with access to an installation file.

The Chrome installer in the Microsoft Store gave Windows 10 users the ability to install Chrome without having to use another browser, such as Edge. Google placed the installer in the app store on Tuesday, but it was removed not much later. The installer only worked on regular Windows 10 versions, not Windows 10 S.

Microsoft states to The Verge that the installer goes against the rules of the app store, because offered apps must offer a unique and distinctive value. Microsoft says that a browser application from Google is welcome in the app store, if it meets the conditions.

Google has not responded to the removal of the installer, but The Verge is said to have understood that Google posted the installation file in response to fake applications in the app store that suggest it is Google’s browser.

If Google actually wants to offer its Chrome browser in the Microsoft Store, the search giant will have to make a new version with EdgeHTML. The Windows 10 app store only allows browsers that use that render engine. According to Microsoft, this is a security measure. Google Chrome is based on Blink, a fork of WebKit.
