Microsoft releases Xbox One update that brings 1440p support
Microsoft has announced what Xbox One owners can expect from the Spring Update, which the company will distribute to Insiders in the coming weeks. The update provides support for 1440p monitors, among other things.
The arrival of 2560×1440 resolution support for the Xbox One X and Xbox One S has been eagerly anticipated. Microsoft itself notes that QHD is already a popular resolution for PC users, filling the gap between 1080p and 4k. Microsoft announced at the end of last year that support was coming.
The Spring Update also brings new functionality to the Mixer game streaming service. Streamers can now share their controllers with viewers: they can take full or partial control with an on-screen gamepad or their own controller. When switching games, the stream no longer stops completely, but goes on pause.
Furthermore, Microsoft has tinkered with the Edge browser for the Xbox One to make it easier to operate with a controller. Favorites and History, among others, are easier to access and users can not only download but also upload images, music and video.
The update will appear in the Alpha Ring for Insiders in the coming weeks. After that, Microsoft will make these available to a wider group.
