“Microsoft releases third quarter WP 8.1 devices with new version”
Microsoft plans to release a series of smartphones equipped with Windows Phone 8.1 with the unreleased GDR update in the third quarter. These are the first phones from Microsoft after the Nokia phone branch was taken over.
A roadmap of upcoming ‘Nokia’ devices from Microsoft has been put online by Evleaks, who is often the first when it comes to details about unreleased smartphones. According to its sources, Microsoft plans to release a series of smartphones with Windows Phone 8.1 and GDR in early Q3, the first major update to be released for Windows Phone 8.1.
The top model is codenamed McLaren, while two more midrange smartphones are also planned, codenamed Tesla and Superman. The devices will be released by American telecom providers, but it is likely that there will also be a European release. There are no further specifications of the mentioned devices.
Before the smartphones with the unreleased version of Windows Phone 8.1 come on the market, Microsoft has the Lumia 530 on the schedule, a low-end device. Details about the specifications are also missing. The smartphone should be released by American telecom providers in the summer. There is no information about a European release for the time being.
Finally, Evleaks states that Microsoft is planning two more smartphones codenamed Makepeace and Dempsey in the spring of 2015, and a large smartphone codenamed Cityman and a high-end device codenamed Talkman in the fall. Furthermore, detailed specifications are again lacking.
Microsoft previously completed the acquisition of Nokia’s telephone division. With the information made public by Evleaks, it is the first time that anything has come out about Nokia smartphones that are released under the wing of Microsoft.
