Microsoft has released the first test version of Windows 10 for the Lumia 930, the last high-end device with Windows Phone to date. The One M8 for Windows from HTC can also now run the test version of Windows 10.

Although Windows 10 for PCs will be released in the summer, the update for phones will be available for the first time later this year, Microsoft says. It had been suspected for some time that the variant for smartphones would be released later.

The new version of the Insider Preview contains several new apps, including Store Beta and a camera app. Microsoft also mentions the presence of new versions of the Office apps Word, Powerpoint and Excel in this test version. Users must download these in Store Beta.

The Insider Preview of Windows 10 for phones is not yet ready for daily use, according to Microsoft. For example, a major bug with MMS can occur and Windows 10 still has many problems with stability and performance.

The Insider Preview now works on virtually all Lumias, including the 930 and the new 640 and 640XL. Microsoft also now supports the HTC One M8 for Windows, a device that was not released in Europe.
