Microsoft has put a preview version of Windows Terminal in its download store. The commandline application has support for tabs and provides access to cmd, PowerShell and the updated new Windows Subsystem for Linux.

When Microsoft announced Windows Terminal in May, the source code was already made available on GitHub. Users could compile the code themselves to get started with the new tool, but now a download is also available from the Microsoft Store.

According to Microsoft, it is an early version that still has many problems and updates and bug fixes are regularly released. Users can request new features, report bugs, or submit pull requests via GitHub. The Windows 10 May 2019 Update is required to install the tool.

Windows Terminal is getting support for themes and other customizations, but the current version doesn’t have all that functionality yet. Users can make such adjustments by editing a json file. Microsoft gives examples of this in a dev blog.

Microsoft expects the official release of Windows Terminal 1.0 in the winter. It seems that the manufacturer is aiming for a date sometime early next year.
