Microsoft releases out-of-band patch for printer bug in Windows 10 1809
Microsoft has released an out-of-band update for Windows 10 1809 and Windows Server 2019 for a bug that caused printers to stop working. That was due to a security update that was released for an earlier bug in Windows.
The update is KB5005394. It is only available for Windows 10 1809 and Windows Server 2019. The bug that it fixes was also in new versions of Windows 10, but they were fixed there earlier this month.
The patch fixes an issue that arose earlier this month when Microsoft released a fix for bug CVE-2021-33764. The patch for that caused users’ printers and scanners to stop working when using PIV or smart card authentication. The vulnerability was not related to any other printing bugs Windows has recently had. For example, the PrintNightmare bug was patched this month, and later there was a vulnerability in the Print Spooler service of Windows.
