Microsoft releases native Arm versions for Visual Studio 2022 and VS Code
Microsoft announces native Arm64 versions for Visual Studio 2022 and VS Code. A first preview version should be available in a few weeks and officially released later this year.
In addition to native Arm support for Visual Studio 2022 and VS Code, Microsoft announces that Visual C++, Modern .NET 6 and Java, classic .NET Framework, Windows Terminal and WSL and WSA for Linux and Android apps will soon be natively supported. This ensures that developers no longer have to use emulation.
In addition to software support, Microsoft is also partnering with Qualcomm on what the two companies call “Project Volterra.” It’s about developing hardware, although Microsoft gives few details about what exactly can be expected from Project Volterra. Project Volterra will in any case get a Snapdragon processor and an NPU for developing AI applications, according to Microsoft. As far as the design is concerned, it seems to be a mini PC, where you can stack several devices on top of each other.
In addition to developing Arm hardware and natively supporting Arm processors in its development tools, Microsoft will also support several open source projects to make the move to native Arm support, including Python, node, git and LLVM.
