Microsoft releases interim fix for System Restore issue in Windows 10
An unknown number of Windows 10 users are unable to restore their PC through System Restore. These are users with “a certain hardware configuration,” Microsoft says. The company has released an interim fix.
The problem occurs with build version 2004 of the operating system, aka the Windows 10 May 2020 Update, Microsoft writes. With that problem, users cannot restore their PC through System Restore. This makes it possible to restore Windows to an earlier configuration if certain components do not work. Since the release of Windows build 2004, some users are getting the error that something went wrong with the reset, and nothing has changed.
The problem affects users with “certain hardware configurations,” although Microsoft does not say which ones they are. The company describes a temporary workaround. In doing so, users must open a command prompt and enter dism / online / cleanup-image / restorehealth. When they reboot their system afterwards, System Restore will work again. The company does not write when a final patch will come.
