Microsoft releases fix for Snipping tool in beta of Windows 11

Microsoft has given the Windows 11 releases in the Beta and Release Preview channels an update that should fix the problems with the Snipping Tool, among other things. These problems were caused by an expired certificate.

The update, KB5008295, includes a fix for some Windows 11 system components not being able to start because Microsoft expired a certificate on October 31. The operating system relies on valid digital code signing certificates from apps as a guarantee that the software has not been tampered with.

The problem affected the OS’s Snipping tool, the touch-sensitive keyboard, the ‘speech typing’ feature and the emoji panel, among other things. The update also ensures that users of Windows 11 in S mode can open the start and settings menu again.

Some of the issues were already addressed with the release of update KB5006746, which can be downloaded manually from Windows Update, but the Snipping Tool was not yet fixed. It is not yet clear when Microsoft will bring the update to the release version of Windows 11.
