Microsoft Releases Chromium-Based Edge Browser on January 15
Microsoft has released a release candidate of its new Edge browser based on Chromium. The final version will be released on January 15 in 90 different languages. On Sunday, Microsoft already unveiled a new logo for the browser.
The release candidate of the new Edge browser is available through the Microsoft Insider website for Windows and macOS. The version should be similar in functionality to the final version that will be released early next year. The latest test version includes support for synchronizing passwords, history, favorites and settings. Users can sync those things in the Edge browser for Windows, macOS, iOS, and Android.
The release candidate also includes built-in tracker protection, which is on by default. Furthermore, both the browser and search engine Bing will have an InPrivate mode, which will allow users to browse and search without their actions being tracked.
Microsoft also introduces a new logo for the browser. According to the maker, the shape represents ‘the waves of innovation’ that the company wants to bring to the new Edge version. On Sunday, Microsoft already set up an easter egg hunt on reddit, the outcome of which led to the new logo.
With the new Edge browser, Microsoft is making the switch to Chromium. That is the browser engine that is also used for Google Chrome, Opera, Vivaldi and Brave. Microsoft has released several beta versions this year. In August, the maker said the beta was suitable for everyday use.
