Microsoft has released the Phone Insider application for Windows developers. The software allows registered developers to access new, unreleased Windows Phone versions. The appearance hints at the arrival of Windows Phone 10.

Phone Insider is free to download from the Windows Phone Store, but only works for developers who are registered with Microsoft. With the app, the company wants to distribute new versions of its Windows Phone software to “Insiders”, the same term used for developers who get access to early Windows 10 builds from Microsoft. That suggests that the Phone Insider application was built to make the phone version of this new OS available.

For the time being, it is unclear whether any developers have managed to gain access to a new Windows Phone build. Microsoft may not start distributing it until later. On January 21, Microsoft will hold an event to reveal the consumer features of Windows 10. It is possible that the Phone version of the operating system will also be discussed and that the distribution of early builds will start after that.

It is suspected that with the launch of Windows 10, Microsoft wants to integrate its desktop and mobile operating systems more with each other than before. Several rumors have come out about the new Windows version. Microsoft would like to introduce a new browser with Spartan and there will be Cortana integration.
