On Monday, Microsoft made Android 12L, which is intended for devices with larger screens, available for its Surface Duo smartphones. The upgrade provides the phones with a new UI and updated icons.

In a blog post, Microsoft writes that the new UI is visible in, among other things, the general settings of the phones and the activity feed of Microsoft Launcher. Four new wallpapers have also been added, which resemble Windows 11 desktop wallpapers in appearance. With the Surface Slim Pen 2, which works with the Surface Duo 2 and Surface PCs, the user can now access a shortcut menu with up to four apps. The user can adjust which apps appear in this menu.

Microsoft has also released a revamped privacy dashboard that tracks apps’ camera, microphone, and location usage over the past 24 hours. Camera and microphone use are now always in the status bar, the company says. The camera and microphone can be turned off or turned on directly via ‘Quick Settings’.

In addition, Microsoft has added new widgets that allow chats to be pinned to the home screen. In addition, the zoom function has been improved, there are more brightness and color options and it has become easier to transfer data to or from another phone.
