Microsoft puts Snapchat Lens filters in Teams for use in video meetings
Microsoft has integrated Snapchat Lens filters into Teams for use in video meetings. The filters are in the classic app and not in the new preview version that was released a few weeks ago.
This concerns a total of more than twenty Snapchat filters, says Microsoft. They are under ‘video effects’ and then the ‘more’ menu, according to the description. Then Teams applies the filter to the user’s video.
The software uses Snap’s Camera Kit to integrate the Lenses. Previously it was necessary to install the Snap Camera app for this, but with the integration this is no longer necessary. According to Microsoft, users can express themselves better thanks to the addition of the filters. Its use is not necessary, the software maker emphasizes. Admins can disable the feature.
In addition, it is necessary to use the classic version of Teams and not the new preview version. Snapchat Lens filters are currently not included. Whether and when that will happen is currently unknown. It is also unknown what partnership Microsoft and Snapchat have and whether either party is paying the other for this integration.
