Microsoft publishes hardware requirements for Windows 8 tablets
Microsoft has published a list of requirements that lists the minimum specifications for Windows 8 tablets. For example, devices must have a minimum resolution of 1366×768 pixels and contain 10GB of storage space.
Except for resolution and storage space stilt Microsoft also demands connectivity; Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0 must be present on Windows 8 tablets. In addition, the housing must contain five hardware buttons, two of which are for the volume, one for turning the device on and off, a Windows button and a button that prevents the screen from rotating. Pressing the Windows and power buttons at the same time should become an equivalent of ctrl+alt+delete. The camera on a Windows 8 tablet must be able to record at least 720p resolution. The screen must support multi-touch, whereby five pressure points can be registered simultaneously.
Several companies have already indicated that they will release tablets with Windows 8. For example, HP, Nokia, Asus and Lenovo have mobile devices with the yet to be released operating system in the planning. HTC is also suspected that a Windows 8 tablet is on the way.
The first devices with Windows 8 are expected to hit the market in the summer or fall of 2012. The operating system is characterized by the Metro interface, which Microsoft has developed for Windows Phone. The interface is available for both desktop and mobile devices.
