Microsoft presents office screen Surface Hub 2S

Microsoft has presented the Surface Hub 2S, a screen for use in office environments. The 2S has a 50″ screen with 3:2 ratio and will have the option of a hardware upgrade with a kit coming next year.

That kit is the yet to be announced Surface Hub 2X, including a sturdier GPU that makes it possible to rotate the screen, Microsoft says. For that, users need to remove the hardware part from the current version and put the 2X module in it.

The Hub 2S now presented succeeds the Surface Hub and has a 50″ LCD with 3840×2560 pixels, with an aspect ratio of 3:2. Input on the screen is via voice commands, the touchscreen or a stylus. For voice commands, the 2S has eight microphones and two speakers.On the top is a 4k camera.

The screen runs on an Intel Core i5 processor of the eighth generation and has 8GB of DDR4 memory and 128GB storage via an m2 SSD. The device weighs 28 kg and measures 74 x 110 x 7.6 cm. The 2S has four USB-C ports, a USB-A port and connections for Ethernet, HDMI and mini-displayport.

Microsoft wants companies to use the screens in offices to collaborate on texts or sketches. The separately supplied stand has wheels to move the screen, while an optional battery should ensure that the 2S can operate for two hours without a power outlet nearby. Microsoft will ship the Hub 2S in the US starting in June for $9000, with a separate $1500 for the stand and $1400 for the battery. There will also be an 80″ variant with a 16:9 aspect ratio, but no details are known.
