Microsoft Postpones Flight Simulator Top Gun Expansion Until May 2022

The previously announced Microsoft Flight Simulator update called Top Gun: Maverick will no longer be available this year. That should have happened in November, but that has now been postponed until May next year.

The postponement is entirely related to the postponement of Paramount Pictures’ Top Gun: Maverick film of the same name. The release of that film has been postponed several times and that should have happened on November 19, but that will now be May 27. Microsoft previously indicated that the expansion will be released at the same time as the film, which also pushes the release of this update for Windows 10 and the Xbox Series X and S to May 27.

The Top Gun DLC was announced in mid-June. In the accompanying trailer, which also shows other new content, there are short images of an American aircraft carrier and F/A-18E Super Hornet at the end. The free update will in any case contain this fighter jet. Microsoft Flight Simulator can already be played with a jet fighter like the Eurofighter Typhoon, but that addition is not free.

World Update VI will be released on Tuesday. This free extension shows Germany, Austria and Switzerland in more detail. Certain specific cities and locations are constructed in detail in 3D. The expansion adds about a hundred new detailed points of interest and the Alps will look much more detailed.
