Microsoft pauses Windows 10 October update due to missing files

Microsoft has stopped installing the October Update for Windows 10 so the company can investigate reported missing files issues. For some users, documents and programs appeared to have disappeared after installation.

On its support website, Microsoft explains that the release of the October update for Windows 10, version number 1809, has been temporarily paused. When the reported issues have been investigated, the company will provide an update on the situation and then resume the installation. However, it is not clear when the investigation will be completed.

According to Microsoft, these are ‘isolated cases’ of missing files. However, it has not been made clear how big the problem is, and how many users miss things after installing the 1809 update for Windows 10. The complaints are not only about missing files, but in some cases also missing programs after committing of the update. Some Windows 10 users even report that their entire Documents folder is empty.

The October update was originally supposed to be released in September, but Microsoft was struggling with development issues, forcing the update to be delayed. That happened earlier this year with a major software update for Windows 10.
