Microsoft has released a major update to Outlook for Mac, making the email app free to use. Microsoft has also optimized the app for Apple socs, which should make the app work faster.

Outlook for Mac was previously only available as part of a Microsoft 365 subscription or separate license, but now users without such a subscription can download and use the app, reports Microsoft.

The update also brings better compatibility with Apple socs such as the M1 series of processors and last year’s M2. They are in all new laptops and desktops from Apple. In addition, the Mac app supports handoff, allowing users to pick up where they left off on macOS on an iOS device. The app can be installed immediately. It is unknown when the next major update for Microsoft’s own Windows operating system will come.
