Microsoft Office Online provides access to Dropbox files
Microsoft has added to its free-to-use Office Online the ability to open documents from a Dropbox folder. The reverse is also possible: a Dropbox user can open a document in Office Online from the Dropbox environment.
Word, PowerPoint and Excel files can be edited within the browser thanks to the Dropbox integration in Office Online, with all changes saved directly to the cloud storage platform. Dropbox also offers a button in its cloud service to open Office files directly in Microsoft’s web applications.
Dropbox’s integration with Office Online comes as no surprise. Despite Microsoft having its own cloud storage service with OneDrive, it works closely with Dropbox. For example, users of Office for the iPad can open, edit and save files if they are in Dropbox.
