Microsoft: No solution yet for battery problems Surface Book and Surface Pro 4
Microsoft has indicated that it still has no solution for the battery problems that owners of the Surface Book and Surface Pro 4 are experiencing. However, the company released a software update to fix other problems.
In a post on the Surface support forums, Microsoft says it still has no control over its battery management issues. While a fix is underway, it is not yet known when the improved software will be released. However, a software update has been released for the Surface Book and the Surface Pro 4 that addresses other problems. For example, WiFi and Bluetooth should perform better and the battery charges better, according to Microsoft. Temperature management has also been improved and the Redmond company says the ‘experience’ of removing and reattaching the keyboard has been improved.
At the end of last year, owners of the Surface Book and the Surface Pro 4 announced that they were suffering from a rapidly draining battery. This is due to issues in the management software that does not put the device into standby mode when needed. This drains the battery while the Surface is not in use. Microsoft had already indicated that it would work on a solution, but it seems that the problem is more difficult to solve than previously assumed.
Some Surface owners have indicated that turning off Windows Hello, security software that scans a fingerprint, iris, or facial features to unlock the device, may help resolve rapid battery drain. However, this doesn’t seem to work for everyone.
