Microsoft: next version Windows 10 is relatively small release
The next version of Windows 10, tentatively called 19H2, will be limited in new features. Microsoft has confirmed that. The installation should be faster because it installs as a monthly patch round, the company says.
PCs running on version 1903/19H1 can take advantage of the option to upgrade as if it were a security update, Microsoft says. Users of older versions will only be able to install the upgrade the way it has been for years. The installation in the new way is faster and requires a single reboot.
The new version of Windows 10 focuses on performance improvements and bug fixes. Microsoft has not yet announced any major new features for 19H2. The next version of Windows should be released in September, just four months after the current version that came out in May.
In the meantime, Microsoft has distributed a build of the next version to Insiders in the Slow Ring, the group of users who have chosen to try less experimental and more stable betas. Users in the Fast Ring have been getting builds of 20H1 for some time, the Windows version after that.
