Microsoft may share less information about Windows updates

In the future, Microsoft may share less or no meaningful information with some updates to Windows 10. For example, the software manufacturer does not always provide a complete description with recent cumulative updates.

This allegedly concerns updates that contain patches that are not relevant to the security of the operating system. In one of those latest updates, Microsoft does not report more than that the software contains improvements for the operation of Windows 10. This is special, because usually an update states what it is exactly intended for and what it serves to improve or to fill in.

It may be an incident, but various English-language media speculate that this is a trend. A Microsoft spokesperson said in a statement to The Register that information in a so-called KB article will only be released if the update is ‘relevant’ or brings new functionality to the operating system. He indeed leaves open the option that not every update deserves a detailed description.

The affected update that contains “too little” information is KB3081438. According to Microsoft, the update contains “improvements to Windows 10 functionality.” Remarkably, the cumulative update appeared three days later than another cumulative update, KB3081436, which still provided full details.
