Microsoft makes Windows Server 2019 available
Microsoft has made Windows Server 2019 available, including through the Azure Marketplace and the VLSC. Other portals will follow later this month. The successor to Windows Server 2016 has been available in preview since March.
Microsoft writes in an announcement that Windows Server 2019 is now widely available and that users can download the software, including as an evaluation version for a period of 180 days. The Redmond-based company had made a preview of the new software available in March. As a result, it was only available to Insiders. Then, in September, Microsoft said Server 2019 would be released this month.
According to the company, the new release has several changes compared to previous versions, for example the Windows Admin Center should facilitate the use of ‘hybrid functions’. By this, Microsoft refers to the use of both on-premises and cloud. In terms of security, for example, shielded VMs have been extended to Linux VMs, Microsoft has enabled the Advanced Threat Protection service, and the new Server version includes Defender Exploit Guard.
Microsoft previously announced that a new version of System Center is coming, which should be widely available in the first half of next year with a 2019 version.
