Microsoft makes Windows Calculator open source

Spread the love

Microsoft has released the code of the Windows Calculator application under the MIT open source license on GitHub. Developers can watch or contribute to the development of the calculator in Windows 10.

The intention is, among other things, that developers can easily integrate elements of Calculator into their own apps, Microsoft writes. The code of the program, which Microsoft wrote in C++, is on GitHub as a project. GitHub has been a part of Microsoft for a few months now.

To view and modify the code, users must use Visual Studio with the SDK for Windows 10 and a component for C++ programs. In the build for developers, sending data is turned off, something that is turned on in the standard version. Developers can not only see the code, but also submit bug fixes and thus contribute to the Windows program as it will be standard in future Windows versions.

The roadmap for the program can also be found in the documentation. It states that the team wants to focus on refining the design according to the Fluent Design guidelines that Microsoft uses in current versions of Windows 10. It is unknown whether Microsoft in the near future will update the code of more programs or Windows components under a new version. open source license.
