Microsoft makes Office 2019 available for Windows 10 and macOS
Microsoft has made Office 2019 available for both Windows and macOS. The successor to Office 2016 will not receive any new functionality after release. Microsoft only issues security updates.
Office 2019 consists of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Project, Visio, Access and Publisher, where the latter four are only available for Windows. Microsoft provided Word 2019 with, among other things, Read Aloud and Text Spacing and Outlook 2019 contains the function Focused Inbox, which shows insignificant e-mails less explicitly. Microsoft has listed all the new features in a faq .
A large part of this is functionality that Microsoft has already added to Office 365, the online version of Office. The developer emphasizes that Office 2019 for companies is ‘not ready for the cloud’. Microsoft further reports that where Office 365 ProPlus receives new functionality on a monthly basis, Office 2019 only receives security updates.
Office 2019 is immediately available for customers with a volume license, for both Windows and macOS. For the other users, the office suite will be available in the coming weeks. Microsoft also announces that Exchange Server 2019, Skype for Business Server 2019, SharePoint Server 2019 and Project Server 2019 will be released in the coming weeks.
The Windows version of Office 2019 is only available for Windows 10. Office Home & Business 2019 has a price of 272 euros, the Home & Student variant costs 144 euros.
