Microsoft lets Windows test users log in with a PIN in safe mode
Microsoft has released a new test version of Windows 10 20H1 with some changes. Among other things, users can choose to log in with a PIN instead of a password in safe mode.
The Windows 10 version that Microsoft is releasing is Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 18995, or 20H1, which is available to test users in the Fast ring. Users who update their OS to the version and who activate Windows Hello can now also log in with pin after booting in safe mode. The feature is part of Microsoft’s effort to make users less dependent on login passwords and allow them to use biometrics or PINs.
Other changes in build version 18995 concern the Your Phone app. From now on, it shows the battery status and the wallpaper of a connected smartphone. Furthermore, Link to Windows and Phone Screen are now also available for owners of a Samsung Galaxy S10, S10+, S10e, S10 5G and Fold. Link to Windows allows users to send messages, receive notifications and synchronize photos and Phone Screen offers the possibility to control Android apps via the PC.
Further changes concern the Windows Subsystem for Linux. Among other things, the kernel version has been updated to 4.19.72.
Windows 20H1 will be released in Spring 2020. Test users in the sLow and Release Preview rings will not get the 20H1 builds until after 19H2 is released. That small release with fixes will probably come out in October.
