Microsoft launches first updates of PowerShell via Windows Update
Microsoft starts updating PowerShell via Windows Update for Windows 10 and Windows Server users. First, the company will update the preview versions of PowerShell 7.2 through the automatic update method.
Microsoft says it is taking the first steps to update PowerShell 7 via Windows Update. Those who run PowerShell 7.2 preview 5 or preview 6 and have at least the Windows 10 version Redstone 3, or the Fall Creators Update, as their operating system, can expect an automatic update to version 7 soon.
According to Microsoft, users must also add a registry key as an opt-in to participate in the first automated update round. Also, they don’t already need to install the MSI for preview 7. It appears earlier. A week after release, Microsofts PowerShell_Team announced via Twitter that the Microsoft Update release is available.
Previously, Microsoft announced with a notification in PowerShell that a new version of the application was ready. Users then had to go to the GitHub page to download and install the new version, or get it through a package manager. Microsoft will only deploy Windows Update for future versions of PowerShell 7. The update process can also be done through Windows Update for Business, WSUS, and SCCM.
