Microsoft: ‘keylogger’ Windows 10 is used for feedback
The ‘keylogger’ that the preview version of Windows 10 has on board is used to collect feedback. This is according to a statement from Microsoft. It is not clear exactly how much data is collected.
There was some controversy last weekend when it turned out that the privacy conditions of the Windows 10 preview indicate the presence of a keylogger. Microsoft said in the terms and conditions it can collect text input from users to use it to improve autocorrect and spell checking, for example.
In a statement from the software giant to The Register, Microsoft says users who participate in the Windows 10 preview will choose to “share data and feedback that will help create the best Windows experience for customers.” This isn’t just about text input; last weekend it appeared that speech recognition data can also be collected, as well as telephone conversations, for example.
