Microsoft is providing the first build of the 20H1 development arm of Windows 10 to test users who chose Skip Ahead. That version will appear next year, but Microsoft wants to start testing now.

Microsoft does not disclose details about the functionality of Windows 10 20H1 included in Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 18836 or what features that version will receive. “Some things we’re working on for 20H1 take a long lead time,” is all the company wants to say.

Compared to the earlier build, there are mainly fixes, based on the release notes. Fixed issues with not being able to wake from deep sleep, not being able to open Cortana in tablet mode, and not showing open apps on the taskbar.

Brandon LeBlanc tells ZDNet that the 20H1 and 19H1 builds also have little difference for now, but that more behind the scenes changes will become visible over time. Later in the spring, Microsoft will bring 19H2 builds to Insiders testers, which is the version of the OS due in the second half of this year. That will happen when the 19H1 build is nearing completion. 19H1 is the next feature version of Windows 10, which may be released as version 1903 in April.
