Microsoft is working on a new app for iOS that will combine the calendar and contact list. The app, called Revolve, shows the user additional information about people who will be present at a certain appointment.

The new Revolve app was shown by Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella during a private press conference. The application aims to improve the productivity of iOS users by combining the calendar function of a smartphone or tablet with the contact list within an environment. For example, information is retrieved from various sources about people who will be present at a certain appointment. It is not yet clear which sources these are, in addition to the contact list, but it is not inconceivable that, for example, Microsoft’s search engine Bing is used.

It is not clear when the Revolve application for iOS will be available. No screenshots have been released yet. A Microsoft spokesperson informed ZDNet that development of the tool is still in its early stages and a release date has not yet been announced. The tool may also be available on other platforms, such as Windows Phone and Android.

Microsoft says it is increasingly focusing on software development that should improve the productivity of users, for example by making the applications more ‘context sensitive’. For example, last month the software company announced Sway, an Office application that can collect photos, videos and text to automatically display this content in an online presentation. The app works via the browser, but also as an application on smartphones. Microsoft has also developed an alternative lockscreen for Android mobiles.
