Microsoft is working on Defender for iOS and Android and releases version for Linux
Microsoft is bringing its security suite Defender ATP to iOS and Android, the company announced in a short announcement. At the same time, the company released a preview of Defender ATP for Linux.
The company is not yet giving details about the mobile version of Defender Advanced Threat Protection. The company will announce more next week at the RSA conference. On iOS, in particular, a full mobile security suite seems out of the question because apps run in a shielded sandbox environment and thus cannot provide background antivirus protection. This probably concerns apps as part of Microsoft’s security platform for the enterprise, which then offer protection against phishing, for example.
Microsoft is also announcing that Defender ATP for Linux is getting a public preview. According to the company, expansion to Linux is a long-cherished wish of customers. Defender ATP runs with support on six distributions: RHEL 7+, CentOS Linux 7+, Ubuntu 16 LTS, or later versions, SLES 12+, Debian 9+, and Oracle EL 7. Microsoft announced last September, during its Ignite 2019- conference, that Defender ATP would come to Linux. Early last year, the company announced that the security suite would be coming to macOS.
