Microsoft is working on a fix for crashes with Windows 10 April 2018 Update
Microsoft is working on a fix for the issues Chrome Browser users are experiencing after implementing the Windows 10 April 2018 Update. Many users complain that their system becomes unresponsive at times since the update.
Not only when using Chrome, the system can ‘freeze’ but also other apps, where Microsoft explicitly refers to the command to invoke the assistant Cortana. Microsoft indicates that it is aware of the problems and aims to have a fix ready by the update round on May 8th.
In the meantime, Microsoft suggests that users can deal with the issues in a roundabout way. Desktop users can use the Windows key + Ctrl + Shift + B key combination to make the system responsive again. Tablet users can press the volume up and down buttons three times within two seconds, and laptop users can close and reopen their screens.
On Wednesday, Windows 10 users reported the crashes, including via Reddit. More users are experiencing problems after updating their system to Windows 10 April 2018. For example, owners of Alienware laptops are complaining on TenForums, among others, that they get the error message ‘Hybrid laptop with Discrete GPU Connected to Display’. The existence of this problem also has the attention of Microsoft and Alienware. This occurs on the Alienware 13 R3, 15 R3, 15 R4, 17 R4, and 17 R5.
Microsoft has been giving users the option to manually upgrade to Windows 10 April 2018 Update since last Tuesday. The developer will officially start the phased rollout from May 8.
