Microsoft is testing Teams for consumers on Android and iOS
Microsoft is testing Teams for consumers in the app for Android and iOS. It will be possible to log in with personal accounts and the app will have adapted functions for personal use.
Microsoft will start releasing the consumer preview of Teams for Android and iOS on Monday, The Verge writes. In the coming weeks, users should be able to use the personal version of Teams. It is not a separate app, but the existing app will be adapted so that users can log in with a personal Microsoft account. Users can also switch between a personal and business account to use Teams privately and for work.
In addition to chat and video calling options, the consumer version of Teams will have the ability to share lists, documents, calendars and locations. There is also a dashboard that can be shared within a group, showing events, locations and tasks that members of the group can share. Teams will also get a vault function, for storing login data for, for example, WiFi networks or a Netflix account. This vault is secured with two-factor authentication and end-to-end encryption. The feature would be similar to OneDrive Personal Vault
Initially, Teams consumer features are coming to the Android and iOS apps. Microsoft wants to adjust the desktop and web versions later. Based on user feedback, more functionality should be added in all versions.
By also targeting consumers with Teams, Microsoft seems to be shifting the focus from Skype. Microsoft tells The Verge that the company will not stop using Skype. Microsoft sees Teams as an evolution, as an app that is meant for more than chatting and video calling.
