Microsoft is testing Spotlight as wallpaper and task manager shortcuts on Windows 11

Microsoft has released a new test version of Windows 11 with Spotlight set as the default background instead of a single image. The operating system also supports new task manager key combinations.

Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 22598 is available to Insider users in the Dev and Beta channels and Microsoft has the isos of the OS for testers published. The presence of Spotlight is initially tested by the company with a small number of users who did a fresh install via the ISO or upgrade and kept the default image of Windows 11. Spotlight rotates background images and gives the user the option to indicate with thumbs whether they like the image or not. Microsoft is also testing 4k images on Spotlight.

Also added to the test version is that task manager has support for three new access keys. Alt + N allows users to directly start a new task, Alt + E allows them to choose tasks to end, and Alt + V is for activating efficiency mode. It’s not so much about keyboard shortcuts, but about faster access to features that visible buttons provide and that task manager already had. In addition, the keyboard shortcuts ctrl + tab and ctrl + shift + tab allow users to switch tabs within the task manager.

Users in the Dev channel get an update to the Media Player that shows two different views of the artist page: one with all albums and one with all songs, grouped by album. The rest of build version 22598 changes are primarily fixes.
