WindowsLatest says based on an internal build of Microsoft Paint, the editing program will get an image generator called Cocreator. The program would use Bing’s Image Creator, which is a derivative of OpenAI’s Dall-E.

According to WindowsLatest The Paint function is therefore called Cocreator and uses the Dall-E model, as appears from the program’s code. To use Cocreator, Paint reportedly needs to be connected to the Internet. It is not yet known when Microsoft will release an official test version with the function among Insiders; the position has not yet been officially recognized by the company. It is also not known how WindowsLatest has gained insight into the relevant Paint version. Those involved have been suggesting for some time that Paint will have AI functionalities, so the alleged development is not very surprising.

The medium also says that it can see the built-in limitations of OpenAI in the code of the program; Due to these limitations, for example, offensive or pornographic images cannot be generated with the AI function. Microsoft would build on this by incorporating ‘additional restrictions for generating unsafe images’ in Paint.

Microsoft is currently making major changes to the originally very basic image editing program. Earlier this week, the company introduced layers in Paint, and earlier this month it released a test version with an option to automatically remove backgrounds from images. Given that Microsoft has close ties with Dall-E and ChatGPT maker OpenAI and given Microsoft’s focus on AI applications, it is therefore obvious that Paint will eventually also have more advanced AI options.
