Microsoft is removing multitasking from Windows Phone 7 due to time constraints

Windows Phone 7 will not offer full multitask support, according to Microsoft because there was too little time to implement it. Instead, applications store data and can receive push notifications.

Only Microsoft proprietary applications, such as Outlook or the Zune media player, can run in the background, thus Microsoft versus Pocketnow. Applications from third party developers cannot, but closing the application saves its current state and information. The application can then receive push notifications. With this, Microsoft implements the same system as Apple in iPhone OS 3.0.

Incidentally, Microsoft does not rule out the possibility that full multitasking will still be implemented in the new operating system via an update after the release. According to Microsoft, multitasking could no longer be built in due to time constraints, although the Windows CE kernel does support multitasking.

A version of the OS is now available on the XDA-Developers forum surfaced. The 54 MB file is intended for X86 systems and therefore does not work on smartphones. This version, which comes from the development tools that Microsoft put online on Monday, cannot be used as a ROM for existing devices. Now that Microsoft has said that the HD2 will not receive an official update, many owners of an HD2 hope that a Windows Phone 7 rom will appear online for their device.

By the way, meanwhile turned out that applications can also be installed on Windows Phone 7 outside of Marketplace. Microsoft previously said that this was impossible.
